Newman, J. E. “Elmer”

Of Garland, passed away at his residence February 7, 2007 at age 88. Born February 4, 1919 in Pleasant Valley, Mr. Newman was the owner of Newman Chevrolet for 42 years and received the Time/Life Quality Dealer of the Year in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Garland and served as a trustee on the Garland School Board from 1949 – 1956 and the Dallas County School Board from 1959 – 1969. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a member of the Garland Masonic Lodges and the Hella Shrine Temple.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Greta Newman, brother, Donald Newman, sister Jo Parish, and his parents C. E. and Betty Newman. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Richard and Beth Newman; daughter and son in law, Karen and Mike Matetich; 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and his sister in law Connie Newman.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday in the First United Methodist Church of Garland with the Rev. Gene Wisdom officiating. Entombment and committal services will follow in the Restland Abbey Mausoleum.
